Further to the initial pilot VATCS trial in 2006/07 the City of Brampton have now expanded the trial into a large scale evaluation.

The findings of the initial pilot were very promising with the VATCS affording a 15% improvement on previously deployed speed feedback display technology.

The City employed Dorman Varitext to supply and install 20 dual diagram posted speed limit VATCS this summer and are currently undertaking a full large scale evaluation of the VATCS performance on reducing excessive road speeds across Its 10 wards.

Before and after speed data is being collected from each sign to allow the City to compile a comprehensive report across a wide variety of strategically selected locations. The City are very pleased with the performance of the VATCS to date and see the technology playing much more of an Integrated roll in their overall traffic calming program in the future.
