Many UK residents are already feeling the benefit of Dorman Varitext VATCS (Vehicle Activated Traffic Calming Signs), slowing traffic on average between 15% and 20% with obvious advantages to road safety and quality of life. Signs can be manufactured using any sign face prescribed by the Traffic Sign Regulations and General Directions. In response to customer demand Dorman Varitext have developed a data collection and logging device that works with the VATCS to provide crucial traffic analysis at accident spots, and enable the local road safety engineer to measure not only the level of incidents of excessive speed, but also the impact and effectiveness of the VATCS once installed. The datalogging software records the date, time and speed of every vehicle approaching the sign, onto a PC based control unit within the sign; this information is then downloaded using Dorman Varitext bespoke software, to enable detailed analysis of traffic flows, speeds etc. All models can be upgraded to include datalogging using standard vehicle detectors. Dorman Varitext’s unique datalogging software (Windows© compatible) is designed for ease of use, interfacing to the sign via remote wireless connection. |

OPERATION |
The display will operate as a secret sign, only displaying the legend when a vehicle approaches the sign exceeding the pre-configured speed limit (adjustable on site). The amber lanterns flash alternately in horizontal pairs, and the legend is illuminated while the vehicle continues to travel in excess of the activation speed, or for a default timeout period. Weekly or yearly programmable timer can be fitted for scheduling of school holidays, bank holidays, weekends etc.. |
